So, another season is flying by and I really won’t need to state the obvious about what sort of season it has been, and continues to be.
SIDE provides an opportunity for farmers and agri-professionals to get together to learn new ideas, share information, be inspired, enjoy a change of scenery and most importantly realise we are not alone in these trying conditions. Sometimes sharing a yarn with friends, new and old, and realising your peers are facing the same challenges can be a bit of a relief.
Now more than ever, we need to get together and remind ourselves that we are all in the same environment, and perhaps more importantly, that the circumstances to a large degree, are out of our control. Luckily enough the SIDE Conference Committee have been busy planning and we have some stellar speakers, workshops and social time set for 20 – 22 June 2016, to help you with what you can control.
The workshops this year again cover a varied range of topics with a great mix of farmer presenters and rural professionals. We also have three Q&A sessions where you will be able to write your questions down as you come into the workshop and the panel will give their perspectives on your questions. This format has proven very popular in the past and it is a great way to get a range of perspectives on a topic.
Many of you have asked for Nigel Latta to present at SIDE, and this year he is just one of our multi-talented, inspiring keynote speakers. Nigel speaks on a wide range of topics from managing people to the psychology of success. He has a proven ability to deliver his message in an engaging and humorous manner. Also speaking is Martin Snedden, International Cricketer, past CEO of Rugby New Zealand, NZ Cricket, Tourism Industry Association and currently CEO of Duco Promotions Limited. Martin will deliver some amazing stories which have insightful and motivating messages.
Of course, SIDE in Southland wouldn’t be the same without the gold sponsors’ cycle challenge which is held in our spectacular velodrome. This always proves a good laugh, with some teams going to great lengths to win!
A couple of days of information and inspiration will really work up an appetite and the event dinner will prove the best place to satisfy this. Always a fun night with spectacular food, great banter and a groovy band, it really is the perfect way to unwind.
SIDE is put together by farmers, for farmers. If there is one thing you do for yourselves this year, make it that you attend SIDE, it’s worth it and so are you!
